For Everyone  Who Kills You  to Think

There are many instances  when a person imagines  they are serving the LORD God  when they kill a Christian  or  hinder biblical teachings.     This should not surprise  or puzzle us  because Jesus told His followers  this would happen.     Jesus taught  in John 16:1-4,

These things  I have spoken  to you  so that you may be kept  from stumbling.     They will make you outcasts  from the synagogue,  but an hour is coming  for everyone  who kills you  to think  that he is offering service  to God.     These things  they will do  because they have not known  the Father  or Me.

But these things  I have spoken  to you,  so that when their hour comes,  you may remember  that I told you  of them.

This prophecy  from Jesus  is to strengthen us, so that we  “may be kept  from stumbling”.     When we face harassment,  threats,  and even death  for our faith  in Christ Jesus,  we need  to  “remember”  Jesus’ teaching.     From the very beginning  of Christianity,  Christians have been killed, tortured,  and harassed  because  of their faith.     Even the Old Testament children of God  were killed  and tortured.

One might sadly wonder  why these hateful people  are so adamant  in trying  to destroy Christianity.     Jesus said  the bottom line is  “because  they have not known  the Father  or Me.”     They might strongly insist  that they do know  the one true God  —  but, the sad truth is  that they don’t accept  God’s word  in the Bible.

There are archeological proofs  of all that is  in the Bible  —  manuscripts,  historical accounts,  and agreement between various manuscripts  that have been found.     Not only that,  but Isaiah 40:8  assures us,

The grass withers,  the flower fades,
But the word  of our God stands forever.

It is God’s promise  that He will keep His word  for us “forever”.     This is the word  of God  that unbelievers  refuse to accept.     Therefore Jesus says,  “They have not known  the Father  or Me.”     They cannot see  that Jesus is  the perfect fulfillment  of all the Old Testament prophecies  of the Savior.     They don’t know  of anyone else  who has been the fulfillment  of all the Old Testament prophecies  —  because it’s impossible  for any mere human  to be such a marvelous fulfillment.

Nevertheless,  they choose  to violently oppose  the eternal truths  of God  that have been proven  through history.     They will believe  a sinful instigator of hatred,  who has not proven his trustworthiness  —  but they won’t believe  God’s proven word.     They won’t even accept God’s offer  of love  and forgiveness  through faith  in Christ Jesus,  so that they might receive eternal life.

Jesus has told us  it would be this way.     Since His word  is proven,  we are to just “remember”  all that He taught  —  and let all His words  keep us  “from stumbling”.

Remembering Christ’s loving sacrifice  for our sins,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for Your patient love  and forgiveness.”

Love,
Margaret
