The LORD Sustains

We know the feeling of,  “Oh no!     I’ve sinned again.     I’m not right  in this.    I have no way  to make this really right again.”

We cannot hide  our sins  from the Lord.     We might  be able  to hide some  of our sins  from other people  for awhile,  but it usually doesn’t take long  before they know.     They might not say anything,  but they know we’ve all sinned.

The Lord knows all things before,  during and after our sin.     There is nothing  we can cover up  from His eyes.     But,  when we are sorry  and confess our sins  to our heavenly Father,  we experience  His love  and mercy.     King David wrote  in Psalm 145:14,

The LORD  sustains all  who fall.
And raises up all  who are bowed down.

This is very important  for everyone  to know.     Whatever our sin,  God is able  to sustain us  with His mercy  and kindness.     God knows how our sinful natures  overcome us,  and for Jesus’ sake,  He willingly helps us  to get a grip  on reality again.

This does not mean  we can belligerently continue  in sin,  because David explains  that the LORD  “raises up all  who are bowed down.”     God does not raise up  the arrogant  and rebellious  —  just those  who humbly bow down  before Him  and ask  for forgiveness.     Those  who admit their sin  and desire  to change  are raised up.     God will give us a clean heart  and a right spirit  when that is our desire.

That is the free gift God greatly desires  to give  to all.     Let us daily confess  our sins  and ask  for our heavenly Father’s forgiveness  —  along with His sustaining a clean heart  and right spirit  within us.     Only God can strengthen us  in this way.     No one  can have a clean heart  and right spirit  with their own efforts.     We must depend  on the Lord  for this blessing.

Then  in the strength  and freedom  God’s forgiveness  gives us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  Your love  is almighty.     Thank You  for loving us.”

Love,
Margaret
