Crucifixion of Christ

Holy,  Innocent,  Undefiled

There are  some church bodies  that teach  that Jesus’ life  and work  on this earth  must be supplemented  with our good works  before we can “earn” eternal life  in heaven.     Some even claim  that Jesus was not sinless  or perfectly holy  in any way.     They also  go on  to claim  that we must do good works  to attain heaven.     Usually their teaching includes  some sort of after life  in which we get  a second chance  to earn  heaven  over eons  of time.

Because these churches are not  in agreement  with many Bible references,  we must beware  of their false teachings.     Just a few references  to Jesus’ perfectly sinless life  could include:

For it was fitting  for us  to have such a high priest,  holy,  innocent,  undefiled,  separated from sinners  and exalted above the heavens.       Hebrews 7:26

For we do not have a high priest  who cannot sympathize  with our weaknesses,  but One  who has been tempted  in all things  as we are,  yet without sin      Hebrews 4:15

who committed no sin,  nor was any deceit found  in His mouth.       1 Peter 2:22

He Himself bore our sins  in His body  on the cross,  so that we might die  to sin  and live to righteousness;  for by His wounds  you were healed.     1 Peter 2:24

You know  that He appeared  in order  to take away sins;  and in Him there is  no sin.       1 John 3:5

He made Him  who knew no sin  to be sin  on our behalf,  so that we might become  the righteousness  of God  in Him.       2 Corinthians 5:21

From these and many other verses,  we must conclude  that Jesus was perfect  —  without sin  —  holy,  innocent, undefiled,  separated from sinners  and  exalted above the heavens.”     It would be impossible  for Jesus  to set us free  from our sins  if He Himself  was a sinner.

There are also Old Testament references  that point  to Jesus’ sinless being.     As the Israelites were instructed  to annually celebrate the Passover  of the angel of death  in Egypt, they were told in Exodus 12:5,

Your lamb shall be  an unblemished male  a year old…

That looks forward  to the last book  of the Bible  in Revelation 17:14,

These will wage war  against the Lamb,  and the Lamb  will overcome them,  because He is  Lord of lords  and  King of kings,  and those who are with Him  are the called  and chosen  and faithful.

Jesus is called  the Lamb  of God because He is “unblemished”  —  “in Him  there is  no sin”.     All this  —  and much more  —  shows that Jesus truly is able  to wash away  all our sins  and take us  to heaven  the moment  we depart this life  —  because He is sinless.

So,  what is our estimation  of Jesus and His power  to forgive absolutely all our sins  through His shed blood  on the cross?

Trusting Jesus’ love  and power  as “Lord of lords  and King of kings”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for stooping down  to wash away  all our sins  and take us directly to heaven.”

Love,
Margaret
