Examine Me, O LORD

Examine Me,  O LORD

We need tests  in school  and on the job.     In school,  a test  will alert the teacher  to where she needs  to concentrate her efforts  —  not to mention  alerting the student  to areas  that need  a better understanding.     On the job testing  reveals the areas  that need different techniques,  improved materials,  and whatever else  is applicable  to make the work successful.

It’s the same  in our spiritual life.     We need  to be tested  so we can see  if we are caving in  to false doctrines,  faithlessness,  worry,  temptations,  fears,  and everything else  that will rob us  of eternal salvation.

The only One  who can rightfully  and accurately test us  is the LORD God Almighty.     He alone knows our every thought,  motive,  feeling,  weakness,  faith,  hope,  love,  and all other aspects  of our spiritual well-being.

If we don’t want God  to test us spiritually,  we will be running away  from Him  and denying  that we really need  Him  to set us  on the right path  to eternal salvation.     If we have any respect  for our Creator  and Redeemer,  we will honestly  want Him  to examine us  and set us straight  in this life.     Our purpose  will be  to be kept  on the right track  and enabled  to win our race  for eternal life.

God is one Teacher,  Supervisor,  and Tester  whom we can trust.     His tender love  for us  will honestly point out  where we need  to be strengthened  and improved,  in order  to maintain  our spiritual life  in this world filled  with all sorts  of delusions,  temptations,  and evils.

King David realized all that,  and trusted the LORD  to examine his spirit,  and then,  to set him  on the right path  to eternal life.     Therefore,  David sang  in Psalm 26:2-3,

Examine me,  O LORD,  and try me;
Test my mind  and my heart,
For Your lovingkindness  is before my eyes,
And I have walked  in Your truth.

It is so very important  to note  that when David asks  the LORD  to examine him,  he keeps  the LORD’s lovingkindness always  in his mind’s eye.     We too, need  to remember  the LORD’s lovingkindness  as we go  through our testings.

God is not out  to get us  and condemn us.     To the uttermost contrary  —  God Almighty loves us  so dearly  that His only intent is  to set us squarely  on the road  to life.     So,  when God examines  our minds  and hearts,  and shows us the way  we should go  —  please,  take that  in the spirit  it was given.     It was given  in the spirit  of love,  so that we may be eternally saved.

God has loved us  so dearly  that He sent Jesus  to suffer  and die  for our sins.     Knowing that,  we can trust  our Lord  to examine  and test our mind  and heart  —  and set us  on the right path  to eternal salvation.

As we ask God  to examine  and try us,  to test  our mind  and heart,  let us also remember  His eternal lovingkindness  and say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  Your love  for us  in Christ Jesus  is so kind,  please examine  our hearts  and minds,  and set us  on the road  to heaven,  according to Your lovingkindness.”

Love,
Margaret
