Such We Are

Such We Are
See how great a love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. 1 John 3:1
We can think of ourselves in so many different ways — as a son, daughter, mother, father, by the job we hold, the sports we like, our political views, our ideals, the movies we like to watch, our goals. Everything we do in life identifies us and says who we are.
There are also many things in life that help form who we are. Most important of all is when we realize just how much God has loved us in Jesus Christ. When we see and understand how Jesus was willing to suffer so greatly and die for us, just so that we could be forgiven, that changes our hearts — it forms faith within us.
When we see that God Almighty actually now thinks of us as His dear children, that’s a miracle that has taken place. It’s a miracle because we really have become a child of God. Everyone who believes that Jesus is their Savior becomes a child of God.
As a child of God, we no longer belong to the world. We know heaven is our true home, so we don’t highly value the things of this world any more. Now we can see how everything our heavenly Father stands for is a treasure that we never want to lose.
Children of God realize that all the loose morals, pride, arrogance, greediness, lustfulness, false religions, and goals of this world are worthless. The degradations of this world are an abhorrence to God and to His children.
With the treasures of God in hand, God’s children gladly strive to be just like their heavenly Father. As Paul says in Ephesians 5:1-2,
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you, and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
When we find out who we are, the pressures, products, and media of this world can only be seen as a sham that wastes our lives and defeats us eternally.
As we abide in the love of God, we remember who we are — beloved children of God — and we joyfully say, “Hallelujah! Lord, thank you for loving us and making us Your own dear children.”
Love,
Margaret
