From Whom  You Have Learned

Timothy  was a young preacher  in the early Christian church  facing all sorts  of false preachers,  while trying  to teach God’s word  in all its truth  to people  who were totally new  to the gospel.     Because of his youth,  Timothy was rather timid  in having  to stand strong  against such falsehoods  from dominant types  of people.

But,  when you have the truth  in your heart  and mind,  you need  to stand strong  in it.     There have been many deceivers right  from the beginning  of time,  who are arrogant,  disobedient,  unloving,  and haters  of everything good  and righteous.     As we stand strong  in the truth,  we need  to realize  that we will be constantly confronted  by deceivers mocking us  for our faith.

Paul,  therefore,  warned  and encouraged Timothy  in 2 Timothy 3:12-17,

And indeed,  all  who desire  to live godly  in Christ Jesus  will be persecuted.

But evil men  and imposters  will proceed  from bad  to worse,  deceiving  and being deceived.

You,  however,  continue  in the things  you have learned  and become convinced of,  knowing from whom  you have learned them;  and that  from childhood  you have known  the sacred writings  which are able  to give you  the wisdom  that leads  to salvation  through faith  which is in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture  is inspired  by God  and profitable  for teaching,  for reproof,  for correction,  for training  in righteousness  that the man  of God  may be adequate,  equipped for every good work.

What a promise!     If you want  to live  a godly life,  you will  for sure  be persecuted.     Have you noticed that  in your life?     That is a challenge  to stand strong  in the truth  for the sake  of God’s love given  to us  on the cross  in Jesus Christ  —  and for the sake  of gaining eternal life.

God’s people  have been martyred  for standing up  for the truth  since the beginning  of time.     The Old  and New Testaments witness  to that.     So,  we don’t have  to feel alone  in our stand  for the truth.     We are  in good company  with the saints  down through the ages.

During our trials,  we need  to remember how we were brought  to faith  through the scriptures.     As we learned  the scriptures,  it gave us  a wisdom  that realized  the truth  of being saved  through our faith  in Jesus Christ.

It is God’s word  that has taught us truth.     God’s word  shows us our sins  and encourages us  to live  in righteousness.     This scripture teaches us truths  about God’s almighty power  to create all things  and sustain  all things.     And the Bible shows us  the faithfulness  of God’s love  for us,  even though He knows all  of our thoughts  and deeds.

As God’s word strengthens us  in realizing  the awesome power  of our Lord  to forgive all our sins,  we become adequate  and better equipped  to start living  for our Savior  with thankful hearts.

All in all,  God is the one teaching us  as we study  and meditate  on His word.     He is the One  who helps us  to recognize falsehoods  and gives us the strength  to adamantly stand against them  as we stand strong  in His word  —  His eternal truth.

With the blessing  of God’s word  in our hearts,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     My Lord,  thank you  for leading me  in Your truths  and for washing away  all my sins  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
