The Secret Things  Belong  to the LORD  Our God

People like  to feel  that they are knowledgeable,  and therefore,  in control  of their lives  and futures.     Consequently,  they will even staunchly  set up various doctrines  regarding  God’s word  —  the Bible  —  and teach their man-made beliefs  as actual facts.     But,  truth be said,  there are  a number of things  that the LORD  does not reveal  to us  —  because we are as little children  without the ability  to rightly understand  —  or bear the load.

A little child  cannot understand physics,  calculus,  or various biological facts.     Not even most adults  or experts  in these fields  understand all  in these fields.     In the same way,  we do not understand  all unexpected things  that happen  to us.

We wonder  about various prophecies  in God’s word  that we cannot understand.     They are a puzzlement  and we want  to understand,  but cannot.     And,  it is for good reason.     God knows our hearts  and minds  are not ready  to understand.     We are spiritually unable  to understand the future  in full detail.     We have an inkling  —  but,  don’t really know.

When Moses reviewed  God’s works  with Israel,  and God’s directions  for them,  they didn’t understand everything either.     Moses then said  in Deuteronomy 29:29,

The secret things  belong  to the LORD  our God,  but the things revealed  belong  to us  and to our sons  forever,  that we may observe  all the words  of this law.

God has shown us  what is truth,  good,  right,  just,  and loving.     He has given us  the history  of mankind’s fall,  the promise  of a Savior,  details about that Savior,  and the fulfillment  of that Savior  in Christ Jesus.     Those are  “the things revealed”  that  “belong  to us  and to our sons forever”.     Nevertheless,  there are  “secret things”  that  “belong to the LORD  our God“.

For us today,  many  of those  “secret things”  are about all  that will happen  in the end days  and on Judgment Day.     We have puzzling  and rather vague prophecies  that give us generalizations.     But,  we cannot bear the burden  of the exact details.     It is in love  and wisdom  that God does not give us  —  His dear children  —  details we could not bear  —  and don’t need  to bear.     We are simply  to trust our heavenly Father  —  our Creator and Redeemer.     As God directs us  in a number of places  and ways  throughout His word,  instead  of worrying  and letting our imagination run wild,   we are to…

Love the LORD  your God   with all your heart  and with all your soul  and with all your might.       Deuteronomy 6:5

Our love is based  on trust  and the knowledge  of all that God has done for us  throughout history.     Love enables us  to thankfully  and joyfully  put our futures  in God’s hands.

The bottom line is  that we are  to follow  and trust  God’s word  —  not our imaginations  or the imaginations  of certain preachers  —  which means we open up God’s word  and meditate on it.     Then,  in relief,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  and wisdom  have no bounds!”

Love,
Margaret
