To Save Him  From Those  Who Judge

What a Savior  we have!     What a God  we have!

Ever since  the beginning,  people have been judging  and condemning God  for who He is.

The LORD  displays  His awesome power  in all  of creation  and explains  in His word  how He created it  by His word.     People humph  with,  “Hogwash!”

People are but a speck  in all  of creation.     They can’t bring anything  into this world  and they can’t take anything  out from it  when they die  —  they suffer  with all sorts  of trials  and ailments  —  and they all  surely die.     But yet,  they have  the audacity  to claim  there is no God  who could have created  all the intricacies  of nature  that we see  around us.

And God is patient  with them all.

The LORD displays  His awesome power  in promising  a Savior  and shows  through thousands  of years  of history  how He has the power  to keep  that promise  of a Savior.     But,  the people humph  with another,  “Hogwash!”

The effects  of their sins  bring on  all sorts  of pains  and trials  throughout the world,  but they still feel  they don’t  need a “Savior”.     Somehow,  all this sorrow  is everyone else’s fault.     Each one justifies  his own sins,  but judges others.

And God is patient  with them all.

All God’s patience  is our time  of grace.     This time  is given  to us  for another chance  to see ourselves  for what we are  and repent.

Psalm 109  is a prophecy  of Judas’ judgmental attitude  and behavior  towards Jesus.     It describes  his hateful,  wicked ways  —  and pronounces  God’s judgment  on all those  who speak evil  of God’s extended love  and suffering  on our behalf.     In it  the Savior prays  in verses 27-28,  as He is suffering unjustly,

Let them know  that this is Thy hand;  Thou,  LORD,  hast done it.     Let them curse,  but do Thou bless;  when they arise,  they shall be ashamed,  but Thy servant  shall be glad.

And so  we know  that the LORD  let our Savior suffer  and die  on our behalf.     At Judgment Day,  all those  who curse  the LORD now  will be terribly ashamed.

But,  because  of Jesus’ victory  over sin  and death,  He rose victorious  to give salvation  to all  who put their trust  in Him.     So,  our Savior ends Psalm 109  by declaring,

With my mouth  I will give thanks abundantly  to the LORD;  and in the midst  of many  I will praise Him.     For He stands  at the right hand  of the needy,  to save him  from those who judge  his soul.

So,  how do we see  Jesus’ suffering,  death  and resurrection?     Do we judge Him  as the world judges Him?     Let us not be  like Judas,  who spoke evil against his LORD  and judged Him  so wrongly.     Let us not wrongly  judge Jesus  with unbelief.

As we see  the wonder  of God’s patience  and love  towards us,  may we return  that love  in worship  and in lives  that reflect  His love.     Then,  we will reverently exclaim,  “Hallelujah!     What a Savior!”

Love,
Margaret
