They  Might  Keep His Statutes

Throughout life  we all  do things  “so that we might”  influence the outcome  of something.     Parents  and teachers  will compliment  and reward good behavior,  “so that they might”  encourage more  of that good behavior.     A person applying  for a job  will dress his best  “so that he might”  make a good impression  on a possible employer.     A couple going out  on their first date  will put their best foot forward,  “so that they might”  be well thought of.

God does the same  with us.     The writer  of Psalm 105  recounts the history  of Israel,  showing all the miracles  that led them  to becoming a separate nation  that was blessed  in many ways.     This psalm describing many miracles ends  with verse 45,  by saying,

So that  they might  keep His statutes
And observe His laws.
Praise the LORD.

God did all sorts  of wondrous miracles  for Israel,  “so that they might  keep His statutes  and observe  His laws.”     In other words,  God did impressive miracles  to impress the Israelites  with the fact  that He truly  was the Almighty,  who needed  to be listened to  and respected.

God has done the same  for us  today.     To prove  to us today  that He is indeed  LORD  and God  over all,  God has kept all  of His prophecies  concerning Jesus Christ.     As we see the Old Testament prophecies  and realize  how they describe  in detail  the promised Savior,  we should marvel  at God’s almighty power  to keep His word  —  “so that we might”  learn  to trust  in the LORD   for all of our needs  and guidance  in this life.

So,  are we allowing  those historical facts  to influence  our behavior today?     As we look  at those facts,  are we letting God  influence  our impression  of Him  as God Almighty,  our Savior,  our Judge,  our All-In-All?     Are we letting God accomplish  the purpose  of His word  in our hearts?

Or  have we closed  our hearts  and minds  to the truths  of these miracles  before us?

If our hearts  and minds  are open  to accept God’s truths,  are those truths  affecting the way  we live  in faith,  hope,  and love?     Has our faith  been strengthened  so that we trust God  to take care  of us  in this life  —  even when the going  is really tough?     Are our hopes  of heaven  now reassured  and positive?     Is our love becoming more God-pleasing?

Let us  let God  mold us  into His dear children,  so that we can be saved eternally.

If we reject all  of God’s efforts  to keep us  in His truths,  we are putting  our eternal salvation  in serious jeopardy.     It won’t be worth it.

As we look  to our heavenly Father  to guide us  through this life,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  You have worked  every miracle  in this life  for our salvation.     Let our eyes  and hearts  stay open  to Your love.”

Love,
Margaret
