To Build You Up

Most all people know  what a put-down  feels like.     There’s always someone around  who wants  to feel  like top-dog  and puts down everyone around him.     There are even  many TV commercials  emphasizing,  “IF you want to be popular”,  “IF you want a clean breath”,  “IF you want a better car  than your pile  of junk”,  “IF you want  to be smart”,  etc.     They all insinuate  that one is not popular  — has an offensive breath  —  does not drive an acceptable vehicle  —  and is kinda disgustingly dumb.

Wherever  or however  a put-down is insinuated,  it ingrains a feeling  of not being good enough.     Consequently,  people will spend more  in time,  effort,  and money  than they can afford  to become  more acceptable  in the sight  of others.     No matter  how much  they put forth  to improve their status,  they still have doubts  about being good enough.

Everything  is totally different  in our relationship  with our Creator,  Redeemer,  LORD God Almighty.     God only wants us  to see  and acknowledge  His love for us  in Christ Jesus.     God wants us  to be so “into”  His word  that we have a heartfelt  and truthful realization  of His love,  faithfulness,  and power  to freely forgive  all our sins  for Christ’s sake.     God’s word  does not  put us down.     Much rather,  it is as Paul says  in Acts 20:32,

I commit you  to God  and to the message  of His grace,  which is able  to build you up  and to give you  an inheritance  among all  who are sanctified.

Paul put all the people  he had been preaching to  into the care  “of the message  of His grace,  which is able to build you up.”     It is the word  of God Almighty  that builds us up.     God’s word  (the Bible ) lets us know  how beloved we are  —  how we are totally forgiven  through faith  in Christ  —  how God promises  to be our strength  through all our earthly troubles  —  how God  has prepared  a place  for us  in heaven.

God’s word  —  “the message  of His grace”  —  even lays  before us  the history  of all God’s promises  of a Savior  and how He fulfilled all  of His promises  in Christ Jesus.     Because God kept all  of His prophecies  regarding a Savior,  all believers  now have  “an inheritance  among all  who are sanctified.”     All God’s faithful children have  “an inheritance”  waiting for them  in heaven.

God does not put us down  for our sins.     Much rather,  everyone  who turns  to Him  in faith  —  trusting in His word  in the Bible  —  will be built up and become a child  of God,  to receive  “an inheritance  among all  who are sanctified”.

This is why  we daily  open up God’s word  and meditate on  “the message  of His grace,  which is able  to build you up”.     God makes us  good enough  for  “an inheritance”.     Knowing that truth,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for making us holy  through the forgiveness received  in Christ Jesus.     Keep us  in the truths  of Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
