Before  the Eyes  of the LORD

Because  the LORD God Almighty  is our Creator,  Sustainer,  Judge,  and Savior,  we owe Him  the deepest respect  and reverence.     He alone controls our every breath.     He alone determines  how long we get  to live  on earth.     He alone is our final Judge  to either grant us the gift  of eternal life  —  or to send us  to eternal damnation.

We cannot present our “good works”  and try  to lay claim  to eternal life  through our efforts.     We don’t have a leg to stand on  because all our “goodness”  is as filthy rags  in His sight.     Our well-being is totally  in God’s hands  —  and no one else’s.     So,  Proverbs 5:21 tells us,

For the ways  of a man  are before the eyes  of the LORD,
And He watches  all his paths.

There isn’t one single thing  the LORD doesn’t know  about each  of us.     All our thoughts  and feelings  are an open book  to Him.     Therefore,  He judges us justly  —  and we’d be proven liars  to try  to claim  any honest goodness  of our own.     Because we’re all guilty  and undeserving  of eternal life,  we need Jesus  to be our Savior  and Mediator  —  to cleanse us  with His shed blood  and present us  as holy  in God’s sight.     Therefore,  Hebrews 12:24 tells us to come,

……. to Jesusthe mediator  of a new covenant,  and to the sprinkled blood……

It is because  of Jesus’ sacrifice  on the cross  that we can come  “before the eyes  of the LORD”  to honestly  stand purified  and totally holy.     So,  we need  to humbly  daily come  before our Lord Jesus,  looking to Him  for mercy  and thorough forgiveness.     Why?     1 Thessalonians 3:13 says,

……. so that He  may establish  your hearts  without blame  in holiness  before our God  and Father  at the coming  of our Lord Jesus  with all His saints.

We need Jesus  to daily  “establish”  our hearts  —  daily strengthen us  in the truths  of His saving power  —  so that  our faith  leads us  to live  in a God-pleasing manner,  to God’s glory.     In His eternal word  —  the Bible  —  God teaches us  about His gifts  of forgiveness  and eternal life.     That is where we learn  about God’s ways,  because Jesus is  “the Word”  of life.     (John 1:1)

When we realize  how beloved we are  —  how wondrously forgiven  —  and how holy  through the blood  of Jesus,  we cannot help  but be overwhelmingly glad.     Then Psalm 100:2  expresses our deep relief  and joy  by inviting us to,

Serve the LORD  with gladness;
Come before Him  with joyful singing.

Knowing  God’s love  and forgiveness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD Jesus,  thank You  for condescending  to suffer  and die  to pay  for our sins  —  and to be our Mediator,  that we may be made holy.”

Love,
Margaret
