God  Is Not  a Man  That He Should  Lie

Man,  in his sinful nature,  will often lie  to get the things  he wants  in life.     Lies  will help him  deceive others  and gain an advantage over them.     So,  we see people lying  in the work place,  in government,  in business deals,  in religious organizations,  and even  in their everyday  family life.     People also have the audacity  to lie  to God Almighty.

With lying  so commonplace,  people want  to imagine  that the LORD  will willingly lie  and change His mind  on a whim.     They think  of God  as they think  of any ordinary sinner.     With such a warped mind-set,  people need  to consider  what the Bible  has to say  about these things.     Numbers 23:19 says,

God is  not a man,  that He should lie,
Nor a son  of man,  that He should repent;
Has He said,  and will He not do it?
Or has He spoken,  and will He not make it good?

We cannot equate God  with a man  —  nor a man  with God.     There is only one  LORD God Almighty.     He is absolutely holy,  righteous,  all wise,  all knowing,  and eternal.     There is no other lord or god  that can remotely  be compared  to the LORD.

When the prophet Samuel  told King Saul  that God had rejected him  from being king,  Saul wanted  to forcefully make God  change His mind.     But,  Samuel told Saul  in 1 Samuel 15:29,

The Glory of Israel  will not lie  or change  His mind;  for He is not a man  that He should change  His mind.

No man  will ever become  like God  with all  of His attributes.     There never has been  another God  like the LORD  and there never will be.     With that truth  in mind,  Job told his friends  in  Job 9:32,

For He is not a man  as I am  that I may answer Him,
That we may go  to court  together.

In all  of the disastrous events  that Job experienced,  he humbly realized  that he could not ever argue  with God  in any way,  shape,  or form.     The LORD is the one  who is eternal  —  with no beginning  and no end.     Only the LORD  is totally holy  and righteous  in all  of His ways.     That is why the book of Revelation  describes many different aspects  of God’s eternal glory,  power,  righteousness,  and judgment.     No man should imagine  that he can be equal  to the LORD God,  for Revelation 19:16,  describes Him as,

KING OF KINGS,   AND LORD  OF LORDS

We need  to respect  His authority  as the eternal LORD over all.     There is no other God,  and we should not want  to imagine  that there is.     To imagine  that the LORD  is remotely anything like us  is to literally call God  a liar.      That is a blasphemy  that condemns eternally.     Mere sinners need  to knock off  their prideful natures.

God’s children  are always glad  to honor  and trust the LORD only  through all eternity.     He alone  is our joy,  so we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  it is so good  to know,  love,  and trust You.”

Love,
Margaret
