There Is No Other Name Under Heaven
There are a number of religious groups — claiming to be Christian — but who honor their founder and leadership more than they honor Christ. These people are blindly following earthly leaders, rather than God’s eternal word. That sort of blind devotion will lead to their eternal destruction. How do we know? When the Apostle Peter was on trial before all the religious leaders in Jerusalem, he said in Acts 4:12,
There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.
“No one else” has any power to save us from our sins or grant us entrance into heaven. Only Jesus has the power to save us eternally. Down through the years, there have been those who have boldly claimed the authority to grant entrance into heaven to their followers. In fear, their followers honor them in hopes of gaining heaven. But, their fears have no basis in God’s truths. If they would just take the time to study God’s word to us, they would see that none of these false preachers has ever fulfilled any of God’s prophecies regarding the true Savior.
Jesus is the fulfillment of all the Old Testament prophecies of a Savior.
In Matthew 1:21, an angel told Joseph about Mary’s condition in a dream,
She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
The name Jesus, in its Hebrew roots, means “Jehovah saves”. Jesus is God come down to save us. No other person can truthfully say that. When Paul was explaining how Jesus is both God and man, he wrote in Philippians 2:9-11,
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
When Judgment Day comes, absolutely everyone will bow down and confess in truth “that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. No one will honor any of the false prophets any more.
It is with relief, joy, and awe that we glory in the angel’s message to the shepherds in Luke 2:10-12,
Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.
In the joy of celebrating Christ’s birth, we say, “Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, thank You for condescending to free us from all our sins and grant us eternal life with You.”
Love,
Margaret
