He Is To Be Feared Above All Gods
He Is To Be Feared Above All Gods
One often hears that it doesn’t matter what god you believe in — just so long as you try to be good. They assume that anyone can reach heaven by being a good, decent human being with a sense of kindness, and a willingness to accept all religions. They claim to accept Christianity as a respectable religion, but don’t seem to realize that God’s word in the Bible does not accept any other religion as being an equal or as being of the truth.
Just a few verses saying that could include:
You shall have no other gods before Me. Exodus 20:3
For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe. Deuteronomy 10:17
For the LORD is a great God
And a great King above all gods. Psalm 95:3
For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised;
He is to be feared above all gods. Psalm 96:4
When the word “gods” is used in these instances, in the Hebrew, it is referring to any sort of ruler, judge, angel, or whatever might be considered divine in any religion. Rulers and judges have authority over their jurisdictions, but they do not have authority over absolutely everything. Neither have they the power to create anything like what we see in all of the earth and the heavens. They are simply created beings themselves, who are born and then die — going to either heaven or hell. That is why Jeremiah 10:11 tells us,
The gods that did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.
This is why it is of utmost importance for people to only worship the one true God.
There is an account in the book of Ezekiel, wherein the leader of Tyre actually felt that he was a god because of all the riches, power, and authority he had. That account also serves as a description of Satan, and how in his pride Satan fell into sin and is headed for eternal destruction. In Ezekiel 28:2 and Ezekiel 28:7-10, the LORD lays out the facts for him by saying,
Because your heart is lifted up
And you have said, ‘I am a god,
I sit in the seat of gods
In the heart of the seas’;
Yet you are a man and not God,
Although you make your heart like the heart of God — …….
Therefore, behold, I will bring strangers upon you,
The most ruthless of the nations.
And they will draw their swords
Against the beauty of your wisdom
And defile your splendor.
They will bring you down to the pit,
And you will die the death of those who are slain
In the heart of the seas.
Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’
In the presence of your slayer,
Though you are a man and not God,
In the hands of those who wound you?
You will die the death of the uncircumcised
By the hand of strangers,
For I have spoken!
The pride of imagining oneself as a god — or that some idol is a real god is a denial of the LORD, who has proven Himself to truly be the LORD and Creator through all of His fulfilled prophecies in Christ Jesus. No other “god” can be compared to the LORD. Ever so thankful for that, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for Your eternal word.”
A Christian devotional to glorify the LORD of lords and GOD of gods.
Pray for our country.
The LORD made this day, let us rejoice and be glad in Him.
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
How blessed are those who dwell in Thy house!
They are ever praising Thee.
Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
