The Only God

The Only God

There are quite a number of beliefs  about Jesus.     Some claim  He was a great philosopher  —  a great preacher  —  a nut  —  a liar  —  a blasphemer  —  and the list goes on.     God’s word,  the Bible,  says Jesus is  “the only God”.     The Bible also  says Jesus  is  our Redeemer,  Savior,  King,  good shepherd,  Lord,  the Lamb  of God,  Priest,  Mediator,  and many other names  to indicate  the greatness  of His eternal being  and saving love  for us.

When Paul glorified Jesus  for saving him  from his sins  in 1 Timothy 1:15-17,  he declared  in verse 17,

Now  to the King eternal,  immortal,  invisible,  the only God,  be honor  and glory  forever and ever.     Amen.

Paul is saying  that Jesus  is God  come down  to save us  from our sins.     Nothing is impossible  for the LORD God  —  and all things  are possible  for Him.     No one is able  to honestly examine and explain all  the intricacies  of God’s being.     His glory  and almighty power  are way far beyond  our imagination.     We cannot explain  how the Father,  Son,  and Holy Spirit  are one God.     Nevertheless,  God’s word says that  in many ways  and places throughout the Bible.

Jesus tells us  in John 4:24,

God is spirit,  and those  who worship Him  must worship  in spirit  and truth.

Because we are mere created beings,  and are often called  “children”  and “sheep”  throughout  God’s word,  we will be blessed  for accepting  these teachings  of Jesus  as a child would  —  without a full understanding  —  but assured  that when we reach  our heavenly home,  we will understand  when we see our LORD  face to face.     For now,  we rest  in Jude 1:24-25,

Now  to Him  who is able  to keep you  from stumbling,  and to make you stand  in the presence  of His glory  blameless  with great joy,  to the only God  our Savior,  through Jesus Christ  our Lord,  be glory,  majesty,  dominion  and authority,  before all time  and now  and forever.     Amen.

As we read  God’s word to us,  we take in  Jesus’ majesty  in Revelation 17:14,

These will wage war  against  the Lamb,  and the Lamb  will overcome them,  because  He is  Lord  of lords  and King  of kings,  and those  who are  with Him  are the called  and chosen  and faithful.

Then we put this together  with Paul’s testimony  about Jesus  in 1 Timothy 6:15-16,

…God,  the blessed  and only Ruler,  the King  of kings  and Lord  of lords,  who alone  is immortal  and who lives  in unapproachable light,  whom no one  has seen  or can see.     To Him  be honor  and might forever.     Amen.

Our God  and Savior,  Jesus Christ,  is awesome  and marvelous  beyond description.     Being with Him  forever  in heaven  will be  a most awesome  and joyful experience  for all eternity.     As we anticipate  being with “the only God”,  our LORD  and Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for suffering  and dying  to pay  for all our sins,  so that we may live eternally  with You  in heaven.”

Love,
Margaret
