Everyone  Who Practices Righteousness  Is Born  Of Him

People  in every religion  and Christian church affiliation  might think  of themselves  as being so good  and righteous.     They could quickly  make a list  of the good things  they do.     They are helpful,  kind,  loving,  hard workers,  honest,  etc.     But,  God Almighty does not consider them  to be honestly righteous.     Nevertheless,  these people  might even quote 1 John 2:29  to prove  that God approves  of them…….

If you know  that He is righteous,  you know  that everyone  also who practices righteousness  is born  of Him.

They will list  their righteous acts  and stoutly say  this proves  that they are  “born  of Him”.     They  practice  “righteousness”.       How is it  that the LORD  would not approve  of them?     Does God meekly  have to admit  they are  “righteous”  and allow them  in heaven?     No.

The world’s definition  of “righteousness”  is “acting in a just,  upright manner”,  being “morally right,  fair  and just”,  being “good,  excellent,  satisfying,  pleasant,  authentic, etc.”     (Webster’s)     But,  that is not  God’s definition  of “righteousness”.     God’s definition  gets down  to the nitty gritty  of honestly being “morally right,  fair  and just”.     Paul shows us  God’s definition  as he prayed  for himself  in Philippians 3:9,

…may be found  in Him,  not having a righteous  of my own  derived  from the Law,  but that  which is  through faith  in Christ,  the righteousness  which comes  from God  on the basis  of faith…….

We need  to pray  Paul’s prayer,  instead of trying  to make out like  we’re righteous  by our own efforts.     How can we be sure  Paul is telling the truth  when claiming  that “righteousness”  is  “through faith  in Christ”?      The Old Testament  says so.     In God’s eyes,  “righteousness”  has always been through faith  in Him.     Genesis 15:6  tells us  about Abraham’s faith  and says,

Then he  [Abraham]  believed  in the LORD;  and He [God]  reckoned it  to him  as righteousness.

Paul emphasizes  the importance  of faith  in Romans 10:10  by saying,

With the heart  a person believes,  resulting  in righteousness,  and with the mouth  he confesses,  resulting  in salvation.

1 John 2:29  above emphasizes  that we need  to  know  that He is righteous”.     In the bottom  of our hearts  we need to  know  for sure  that God Almighty  “is righteous”.     No matter what  is happening  in this wicked ol’ world  —  no matter how devastated  we might be  —  God  “is righteous”.     God lets us experience  all sorts  of testings  of our faith.     In all those testings,  God  “is righteous”.     We are not unloved  or being punished.     In their sufferings,  all the people  of faith  throughout the Bible  can testify  to that.     In all that they suffered  for their faith,  they realized  that they were still  in God’s tender,  loving care  —  even in their pain.

Believing  that God  “is righteous”  is the right thing  to do  because it is the absolute,  eternal truth.     If we don’t think God  “is righteous”,  we are calling Him  a liar.     That is a blasphemy  that sends us straight  to hell.

We can trust  the LORD  of all righteousness  to count us  as righteous  when we practice  the “righteousness”  of believing  in Him.     Only then are we  “born  of Him”.     That is when  we truly become  the children  of God.

Thankful  for God’s righteousness  through faith  in Jesus,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for the gift  of Your righteousness.”

Love,
Margaret
