The Wisdom  Of Their Wise Men  Shall Perish

When people think greatly  on their imagined greatness,  they are  in the process  of turning away  from the LORD  and all the truths  and wisdom  regarding  our reality.     When the Israelites  became proud  of their traditions,  knowledge,  and discernment,  the LORD said  to them  in Isaiah 29:13-14,

Because this people  draw near  with their words
And honor Me  with their lip service,
But they remove  their hearts  far from Me,
And their reverence  for Me  consists  of tradition  learned by rote,
Therefore  behold,  I will once again  deal marvelously  with this people,  wondrously marvelous;
And the wisdom  of their wise men  shall perish,
And the discernment  of their discerning men  shall be concealed.

The Israelites surely  had more knowledge  and discernment  about the LORD  than their heathen neighbors.     And,  they had traditions  that were intended  to highly honor  the LORD.     But,  instead  of letting that bolster  a true faith,  hope,  and love,  they let themselves become  like robots.     Instead of honestly  and sincerely worshiping God  for who He is  in reality,  their “religion”  became mere “lip service”.     They were bored  with what they deemed  as the same ol’,  same ol’.

They were so accustomed  to the traditions  in worship  that  “their reverence” became merely  “tradition  learned  by rote”.     That is an easy trap  to fall into.     It takes  no thought,  no sincerity,  no heart  —  just a boring bit  of time  in our day  —  while one thinks  about what they will do  with the rest  of their day.

That is disgusting  in the eyes  of the Most Holy LORD,  who created us,  sustains us  through all our troubles,  faithfully loves us,  patiently deals  with our sins,  and sent His only begotten Son  to suffer  and die  to pay  for our sins.

Because the people  are  so loveless  and uncaring  in their pride  and independence,  God says,  The wisdom  of their wise men  shall perish,  and the discernment  of their discerning men  shall be concealed.”     In other words,  the truths  of God  will no longer  be their strength  and glory.     They knew the true God  —  but disregarded Him  as boring.     They had the  “discernment”  of all  of God’s righteous ways  —  but chose  to dismiss it  as they puffed up  their prideful ways.

Every generation needs  to take this  to heart.     God offers us  His word  and salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus  every day.     It is not boring,   unless our pride blinds us.     God’s word gives us “discernment”  about all  that is truth,  good,  holy,  and right.     If we fall  into the politically correct philosophies  of this world,  we will  lose it all.     And then will come  our judgment day.

To flippantly  reject truth  and righteousness  is the worst thing  we can do  to ourselves.

As we honor God  for all  that He is,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  for Jesus’ sake,  draw us close  to Your heart  in truth  and a sincere love.”

Love,
Margaret
