So  Faith Comes  From Hearing

Many people wish  and wish  for a stronger faith.     Their problems  are great  —  they know  they should  be trusting God more  —  but  they want  instant relief,  like yesterday.     So  they groan  and wish  for a stronger faith.

In their anxiety,  they don’t realize  they are creating some  of their own problems.     When Paul explains  the circumstances  around a true faith,  he tells us what  we need  for a true  and strong faith  in Romans 10:17,

So faith comes  from hearing,  and hearing  by the word  of Christ.

We need  to be hearing  the actual words  of Christ  —  our Lord,  God,  and Savior.     We don’t get  to hear God’s words  through some  prosperity preacher,  cult leader,  philosophy teacher,  or false teacher.     Their words  are misleading,  even when they quote  some Bible passage.     We need  to be  opening up God’s word,  and reading it  for ourselves  every day.

There  we will be able  to see  and dwell  on all   of God’s truths  for ourselves  —  His whole plan  of forgiveness  and salvation  —  His trustworthiness  in keeping  His promises  down through  the ages.     There  we will be strengthened  in the true faith.     There  we will also see  the consequences  of those  who stopped listening  to God,  and tried  to make up  their own standards  for living.

Our greatest joy,  enlightenment,  and relief  in this life  is listening  to God’s actual words.     Let’s open up  our Bibles  and enjoy  a rest.     Then we can honestly say,  “Hallelujah!”  and mean it  with a true faith.

Love,
Margaret
