I Press On

I  Press On

We know  the old saying,  “Try,  try,  try again.”     If we fail  at something,  we pick ourselves up  and try again.     We know  we have failings  —  and we know  that a lot  of people know  our failings.     But  we keep on trying  just because  we have  a goal  in mind  —  something that is  especially important  in our hearts  and minds.     Even Thomas Edison  experienced many failures,  but said  with a positive attitude,

I have not failed 10,000 times  —  I’ve successfully found  10,000 ways  that will not work.

As God’s children,  we know  that we need  to be living  as children  of the King  —  holy,  pure,  growing in grace and knowledge.     Nevertheless,  we keep on failing.     We become afraid  of trusting God’s ways  in this godless world.     Our faith  seems weak  when we have troubles.     We fall into temptations  that should have been easy  to avoid.     We let old habits dominate  our lives.     We give in  to the pressures  of those  who have false teachings,  just because  we don’t want  to be different.

Even the apostle Paul  realized  he had not come  anywhere near being  a  “perfect” child  of God.     Instead of becoming discouraged  with his imperfections,  he said  in Philippians 3:13-14,

Brethren,  I do not   regard myself  as having  laid hold  of it yet;  but one thing  I do:   forgetting  what lies behind  and reaching forward  to what lies ahead,  I press on  toward  the goal  for the prize  of the upward call  of God  in Christ Jesus.

God has called us  to be His own.     He doesn’t want us  to give up  in reaching  for Him  with our whole hearts.    We aren’t perfect,  but Jesus imputes His perfection  to us  through faith.     Jesus is  the successful way  to enter  eternal life.     There is no other possible way,  so we just  put our faith  in what He  has already done  for us.

Perfected in Christ,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for reaching out  to us.”

Love,
Margaret
