Because Of Your Truth
When a powerful truth hits us because it is so obvious and awesome, we are stopped in our tracks and don’t dare go against it. In some cases, a person realizes that to go against it would bring a certain, condemning judgment that would show us to be a liar and that we are much too afraid to face. In other cases, a person realizes an awesome, glorious fact that brings a sure joy and confidence to put their whole trust in that truth.
This joy and confidence is what made the writer of Psalm 115 to say in verse 1,
Not to us, O LORD, not to us,
But to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.
This psalmist was awe struck with the almighty “glory”, “lovingkindness”, and “truth” of the LORD’s whole being. Absolutely nothing can compare to the love of God. Nothing can compare to His glory in all of His creation and to His glory in heaven. And, nothing can compare to God’s most glorious eternal “truth”.
Because of the “truth” of God’s power, love, glory, and faithfulness, He was able to promise a Savior from sin in Genesis — and keep His promises over thousands of years, down to the most exact details. That’s in addition to all His glory in everything He created — and the miracles that cause His creation to be sustained.
We should not desire to receive any sort of glory for our puny efforts. That is totally ridiculous in comparison to the fact that God has made us and given us our abilities. We don’t have anything to brag about. We’re just a part of God’s creation.
Facing the truth of our existence, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for all Your blessings.”
Love,
Margaret
