Be Strong  And Courageous

Moses spoke  to all Israel,  shortly before he died  and Israel was  to enter  the Promised Land  under the leadership  of Joshua.     The LORD  had directed the Israelites  to destroy  the heathen nations  within the given borders  that God  had designated.     This was to be done  to cleanse the land  of all the idolatry  that it had participated in,  so that  it could  be open  to receive  the blessings  of the LORD.

When Moses spoke  at length  to the people,  he said in Deuteronomy 31:6,

Be strong  and courageous,  do not  be afraid  or tremble  at them,  for the LORD  your God  is the one  who goes  with you.     He will  not fail you  or forsake you.

God  has said  the same  on many different occasions  to encourage  and direct  His people  in the things  He asked them  to do  —  and  in the kind  of life  He tells us  to lead.     When  it comes  to leading  a godly life today  —  sharing  God’s word  —  going against the “political correctness”  of today’s  worldly standards  —  and honoring God  in our daily lives,  we often need  to  “be strong  and courageous”.

Why?     Because  doing so  usually brings  ridicule  and mockery  from all sorts  of unbelievers.      But,  much more than that,  because not being  “strong  and courageous”  in such times  is denying God  as our LORD  and Savior.     We don’t have  to be afraid  of “them”  because  “the LORD your God  is the one  who goes  with you”.

Although  the world  does not realize it,  God has stood  with His children  in every sort  of trial  and persecution.     God  was with Jesus  as He was crucified.     The world did not “see” that,  but Jesus rose victorious  as the Lord  of lords  and  King  of kings.     All those  who keep  the faith  are victorious eternally.     That’s God’s promise.

Knowing the LORD’s  eternal authority  and righteousness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Thank You for staying  by us.”

Love,
Margaret
