God  Is the Strength  Of My Heart

The children  of God  have been ridiculed,  mocked,  and persecuted  since the beginning.     The Old Testament is filled with  historical accounts  of such happenings.     So we need not  be surprised  to hear  of it  even today.

When the psalmist,  Asaph,  told of his feelings  during such times  in Psalm 73,  he said  to God  in verses 25-28,

Whom  have I  in heaven  but You?
And besides You,  I desire nothing  on earth.
My flesh  and my heart  may fail,
But God  is the strength  of my heart  and my portion  forever.
For,  behold,  those who are far from You  will perish;
You have destroyed  all those  who are unfaithful  to You.
But as for me,  the nearness  of God  is my good;
I have made  the Lord God  my refuge,
That  I may tell  of all  Your works.

Asaph felt  deeply troubled  to see  the wicked  always prospering  in all their wickedness.     The wicked  were so proud  and arrogant  as they oppressed  God’s children  and mocked God Almighty.     Asaph almost got  to feeling  that his efforts  to always live  according to God’s word  was a waste  of effort.     But then  he realized  that the wicked  were to be  totally destroyed  forever.

It is a much greater blessing  to have God  in our hearts forever  —  than to be filled  with evil greed  and hatred.     To have God  as  the strength  of my heart  and my portion forever”  is the most wondrous blessing  anyone  can have.

Resting  in God’s saving grace  in Christ Jesus,  right in the midst  of our troubles,  we say,  “Hallelujah!       LORD,  there is absolutely nothing better  than having You  in our hearts.”

Love,
Margaret
