His Understanding  Is Inscrutable

When God promised a Savior  from sin  through the prophet Isaiah,  it was hard  for the people  to fathom  all  that the power  of God  would do  for them.     Nevertheless,  God told them  they should take comfort  in what the Savior  would do  —  and that they should  prepare their hearts  to receive their LORD.     It would still be about 740 years  before that promised Savior  would actually arrive,  but the promise  was sure  to be kept  —  even though the people were clueless  about the time frame.     Therefore,  God said,  in Isaiah 40:28-31,

Do you not know?     Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God,  the LORD,  the creator  of the ends  of the earth
Does not become weary  or tired.
His understanding  is inscrutable.
He gives strength  to the weary,
And to him  who lacks might  He increases power.
Though youths  grow weary  and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those  who wait  for the LORD
Will gain new strength.
They will mount up  with wings  like eagles,
They will run  and not get tired,
They will walk  and not become weary.

Though the time was long  in human thinking,  time in no way weakens  the power  of the LORD.     The LORD  understands so much more  than we can ever imagine,  so that we truly need  to place  all things  in His hands.     Whatever we’re thinking  can be termed childish.     So,  we need  to trust  and believe  as a child  trusts his parents.     Our total understanding  is not necessary  —  but trust  and faith  are necessary.

We can be glad  our Savior has come.     In our lives today,  we still face challenges  far beyond  our capacity.     But,  we remember  that  “His understanding  is inscrutable”.     God intimately  knows everything  we face,  and our job is  to  “wait  for the LORD”.     He will strengthen us  according to His wisdom  —  and we can trust  that He will carry us through.

Resting  in His grace,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for strengthening us  when we’re weary.”

Love,
Margaret
