You Have  Taken Away  the Key  Of Knowledge

Jesus  was angry.     There were religious leaders,  who made out like  know-it-alls,  but were misleading  the people,  so that the people  could not learn  of God’s love.     So,  Jesus warned them in Luke 11:52,

Woe  to you lawyers!     For you have taken away  the key  of knowledge;  you did not enter in yourselves,  and those  who were entering in  you hindered.

Those “lawyers”  taught God’s laws  to the people  —  along with a ton  of their own  man-made laws.     Of course,  they loved their own man-made laws the best.     They were more binding  on the people  in the judgment  of those religious leaders.     Because the people  were so restricted  with all sorts  of silly laws,  they had no opportunity  to come  to know  the true love  of God  —  rather,  they were always filled with  a wrong kind  of fear  of God.     By wrongly making up laws,  the  “lawyers” had  “taken away  the key  of knowledge”  for the people.

Not even the “lawyers”  were able to keep  all their laws perfectly,  though they hid their failings  from the people.     Jesus wants us all  to have  “the key  of knowledge”  —  He wants us  to know God  in the right way,  as our Savior,  Father,  King,  Judge,  and Creator  who loves us.

We come to  “know God”  through meditating  on His word  to us  —  not by obeying  man-made laws  and traditions.     God’s word tells  of His saving love  through faith  in Christ Jesus  —  and it leads us  to learn  the true meaning  of love.     Love is an absolute necessity  for our salvation  —   so much so  that  1 John 4:8  tells us,

The one  who does not love  does not know God,  for God  is love.

The bottom line is  we need  “the key  of knowledge”,  the  “knowledge”  of God  and His love  for us.     Knowing God’s love  in Christ,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  lead our lives  in Your love.”

Love,
Margaret
