The Light  Of Your Countenance

When the people around us  are doubting  and mocking the goodness  of the LORD,  regarding  all that is happening  to us,  we might tend  to feel  put down.     But,  we need  to turn  to the Lord  and pray  as King David did  in Psalm 4:6,

Many  are saying,  “Who will show us  any good?”
Lift up  the light  of Your countenance  upon us,  O Lord.

One can get discouraged  when others  are being negative  towards the challenges  we are facing.     They are showing unbelief  in the love,  power,  and eternal reality  of God Almighty  that we are putting  our whole trust in.     When they sneeringly ask,  “Who will show us  any good?”  their unbelief  is discouraging.

The  “countenance”  of God  is what we see  when we look  at the reality  of His face  —  what is He really like?  —  what has He been like  throughout history?  —  what has He done  in all  of creation?     In all  of creation  and history,  we see the most awesome power  and love  of God Almighty.     There is love  and power  throughout creation  as we look upon  all that He has made.     There is love  and power  throughout history,  as we see  how God promised  a Savior  in the very beginning  —  and brought about  that Savior  exactly as promised  through many prophecies.

The  “light”  of God  is given us  throughout His word  in the Bible.     That’s where we can see  that 1 + 1  equals 2.     Only the LORD  has been able  to make prophecies  over thousands  of years,  by many different prophets,  that all came true  to the smallest detail  in the one man  Jesus Christ.     There is no other  “god”  known  to mankind,  who has been able  to give people  such a true  “light  of Your countenance”.

What God shares  with us  in the Bible  is truly enlightening.     So,  it is with awe  that we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for the safety  of Your almighty power.”

Love,
Margaret
