Abide  In My Love

In John 15:9,  Jesus tells us,

Just as  the Father  has loved Me,  I have also  loved you;  abide  in My love.

To  “abide”  is to  stand fast  —  remain  —  go on being  —  live  —  and to submit to.     We need  to firmly stick  to Jesus’ love.     And,  even beyond that,  we need  to submit  to Jesus’ love.     Jesus’ love  is not  like the fickle human love  we often experience.     Jesus’ love  is forever faithful  —  even when we are  not so faithful.

Jesus’ love goes  to the nth degree  for us,  as Jesus says  in  John 15:13,

Greater love  has no one than this,  that one lay down  his life,  for his friends.

Jesus not only calls  us sinners  His friends,  He suffered  and died  to pay the penalty  for all our sins.     We don’t have  to pay a penalty  for any  of our sins,  because it has already  been paid.

That is the truth  we must submit to.     If we don’t want  to accept  the truth  that Jesus’ suffering  and death  paid  for absolutely all  of our sins  —  then we are not being  Jesus’ friend  —  we are not abiding  in His love.     If we refuse  to abide  in His love,  we are not saved.

We might know about Jesus  —  faithfully go to church  —  do all sorts of good works  in the church  —  but we can’t be saved,  because we are not abiding  in His love.     We need  to submit  to Jesus’ love,  and get rid  of our prideful,  worthless,  self-righteousness.     The only way  to honestly abide  in Jesus’ love  is to accept  His death  on the cross  as having  totally paid  for all our sins.

In the wondrous peace  of having all our sins  forgiven,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for the blessedness  of Your love.”

Love,
Margaret
