Even Satan  Disguises Himself

We need  to be aware  that we are living  in very perilous times  in regards  to what we believe  about Christ Jesus.     So much deception  is being boldly peddled  as gospel truth  —  and many people  are glibly falling  for it,  because  they don’t take the time  to read God’s word  to us.

The lazy man’s way  to “learn”  about Jesus  is  to watch a movie  —  and then  to believe  that the movie  is rightly presenting  God’s word.     What a way  to rip away  God’s truths.     In many cases,  what the actors say  is a twisting  of the truth  —  an outright deception.     They might appear dramatic in some way  —  but distortion is distortion  —  and it will not  save  or  strengthen us  in God’s truth.

When Paul warns us  about distortions  of the gospel,  he writes in 2 Corinthians 11:13-15,

For such men  are false apostles,  deceitful workers,  disguising themselves  as apostles  of Christ.     And no wonder,  for even Satan disguises himself  as an angel  of light.     Therefore  it is not surprising  if his servants  also disguise themselves  as servants  of righteousness;  whose end shall be  according to their deeds.

Paul makes many such warnings  that we should not take lightly.     A couple include,

For  if one comes  and preaches another Jesus  whom we have not preached,  or you receive  a different spirit  which you have not received,  or a different gospel  which you have not accepted,  you bear this beautifully.       2 Corinthians 11:4

I am amazed  that you are so quickly deserting Him  who called you  by the grace  of Christ,  for a different gospel,  which is really not another;  only there are some  who are disturbing you  and want to distort  the gospel  of Christ.     But  even if we,  or an angel  from heaven,  should preach  to you  a gospel contrary  to what we have preached  to you,  he is to be accursed!     Galatians 1:6-8

Paul is using  very strong language  because our eternal lives  are at stake.     The bottom line is  —  read God’s word every day  so we can appreciate  and distinguish  the gospel  from the world’s distorting imagination.     Movies are not a substitute  for God’s truth.     They often contain outright lies.

Ever glad  that God’s word  to us  is eternal  and available,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  thank You  for guarding  our faith  through Your word.”

Love,
Margaret
