The Proof  Of Your Faith

There are no words  to fully describe  the blessing  we have  in coming  to realize  God’s love  and mercy  to us  through Jesus Christ.     There simply  is no way  to be eternally saved,  except through faith  in Jesus’ merits  for us  on the cross.     And,  it’s awesome  to know  that God’s power  has chosen  to protect  and save us.     But,  even though we know  we are headed  for heaven,  we still have many harsh trials  to go through  here on earth.     So,  we’re happy  and distressed  all at the same time.     1 Peter 1:6-9  says this  about our situation,

In this  you greatly rejoice,  even though now  for a little while,  if necessary,  you have been distressed  by various trials,  that the proof  of your faith,  being more precious  than gold  which is perishable,  even though tested  by fire,  may be found  to result  in praise  and glory  and honor  at the revelation  of Jesus Christ;  and though  you have not seen Him,  you love Him,  and though  you do not see Him now,  but believe  in Him,  you greatly rejoice  with joy inexpressible  and full  of glory,  obtaining  as the outcome  of your faith  the salvation  of your souls.

All this truth  was written  by a regular fisherman.     Peter knew  what life  and salvation  is all about.     It’s not so much God,  who needs a  “proof  of your faith”.     We  need a “proof”  of our  “faith”.     Mere words  are cheap.     But  when we can honestly  “greatly rejoice”  even though  we are being  “distressed  by various trials”,  then we know  that we know  that Jesus  is our Savior  from all sin  —  and that faith  in Him  truly saves our souls  for all eternity.

If we are more  “distressed”   than we are  greatly rejoicing,  we need  to let God’s word  strengthen us  in His eternal truths.     God  lovingly teaches us  when we abide  in His word.     As we learn,  we will grow  in faith  and rejoice  in what  God has done  for us.

Rejoicing  in faith,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your eternal salvation  is more precious  than all the gold  in the world.”

Love,
Margaret
