He Turned Himself  to Become  Their Enemy

So many people  think they are saved  just because  they go to church,  take part  in church activities,  and generally feel okay  about their daily lives.     But,  they literally pay absolutely  no attention  to God’s word.     They are so absorbed  into themselves  that they don’t care  that they are constantly grieving God,  our Savior.     How so?

Isaiah 63:8-10 says,

For He said,  “Surely,  they are My people,
Sons  who will not deal falsely.”
So  He became  their Savior.
In all their affliction  He was afflicted,
And  the angel  of His presence  saved them;
In His love  and  in His mercy  He redeemed them,
And He lifted them  and carried them  all the days  of old.
But  they rebelled
And grieved  His Holy Spirit;
Therefore  He turned Himself  to become  their enemy,
He fought against them.

God chose Israel  to be His special people  —  the people  who would bear His name  and witness  of salvation  to the whole world.     “So  He became  their Savior.”     God saved Israel  in many dire situations  and battles.    The Old Testament witnesses  many circumstances  of God’s presence  with Israel  to save them.     That is why  Isaiah says,  “He lifted them  and carried them  all the days  of old.”     That was wonderful.

But sadly,  “they rebelled  and grieved  His Holy Spirit”.     How did they do that?

They copied the heathen traditions  of the peoples  around them  —  they worshiped idols  —  they sacrificed their children  to idols  —  they lived  in adultery  —  in their corruption,  they lied,  stole,  and murdered.     In general,  they became  loveless  and faithless.

Therefore  He turned Himself  to become their enemy,
He fought against them.

Israel’s problems started  when they began  to copy  heathen traditions.     That led them  to disregard God  in so many ways.     History seems  to be repeating itself.     Today,  with our risen Savior,  people who call themselves Christian  are copying  the heathen traditions  of the world.     On the day  of Christ’s resurrection,  they celebrate  with the Easter Bunny  and all sorts  of myths  that have nothing  to do with salvation  through Jesus Christ.

Maybe we should  knock off  our heathen traditions  and get  to worshiping  our LORD  and Savior  with a true respect,  honor,  and faithfulness.     Then God  won’t want  to fight  against us.

Glorifying Christ  in all His resurrection glory,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for choosing us  to be Your people.     Strengthen us  in Your truths.”

Love,
Margaret
