In the Haughtiness  of His Countenance

Every day  in the news,  we are presented  with reports  of all sorts  of wickedness.     It seems  there is no end  to the arrogance  and defiance  of those who proudly do evil.     Since the wicked  have existed  from the beginning,  Psalm 10 describes  their gross thoughts  and deeds.     Psalm 10:4 says,

The wicked,  in the haughtiness  of his countenance,  does not seek Him.
All his thoughts are,  “There is no God.”

They are silly enough  to imagine “there is no God”,  because they haven’t been severely punished  —  yet.     Even though  history shows us  that the wicked  have a terrible demise  every time  God brings down  His punishment  upon them,  the wicked  who come  after them  do not learn  their lesson.     They still refuse  to seek the LORD  because they imagine,  “There is no God.”

The apostle Paul explains  in Romans 1:18-25,

For the wrath  of God  is revealed  from heaven  against all ungodliness  and unrighteousness  of men  who suppress  the truth  in unrighteousness,  because that which  is known  about God  is evident  within them;  for God made it evident  to them.     For since the creation  of the world  His invisible attributes,  His eternal power  and divine nature,  have been clearly seen,  being understood  through what has been made,  so that they are  without excuse.     For even though  they knew God,  they did not honor Him  as God  or give thanks,  but they became futile  in their speculations,  and their foolish heart  was darkened.     Professing  to be wise,  they became fools,  and exchanged  the glory  of the incorruptible God  for an image  in the form  of corruptible man  and of birds  and four-footed animals  and crawling creatures.

Therefore  God gave them over  in the lusts  of their hearts  to impurity,  so that  their bodies  would be dishonored  among them.     For they exchanged  the truth  of God  for a lie,  and worshiped  and served  the creature  rather than the Creator,  who is blessed forever.     Amen.

Their earthly lives  are warnings  of their eternal punishment  —  but they still refuse  to honor God.

As we look  at all  that God has done  in creation  and history,  let us humbly  turn  to Him  for strength  and guidance  in living holy lives  that we will never regret.     Then  we will know  the awesome love  and forgiveness  of God,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for guiding us  in Your wondrous truths.”

Love,
Margaret
