If It Begins With Us First

If  It Begins  With Us  First

It’s easy  to see  —  and judge  —  the wickedness  around us.     And  we certainly are never  to call  what is good  evil  —  or what is evil  good.     God hates that  and will judge everyone  who does so.     No matter  who we are,  we all  need  to remember  and respect  the fact  that absolutely everyone will be judged  by God Almighty.     1 Peter 4:17  teaches us,

For it is time  for judgment  to begin  with the household  of God;  and  if it begins  with us first,  what will be  the outcome  for those  who do not obey  the gospel  of God?

Peter is warning  all Christians  of our upcoming judgment.     We are not free  to sin uncontrollably  and imagine  that God  will forgive us  even when we are despising  His word  to us  with our sinful lifestyles.     We are  the first  in line  to be judged.     God’s first requirement  of us  is that we  “obey  the gospel  of God”.     That is  to realize  and believe  that Christ’s suffering,  death,  and resurrection  do,  indeed,  wash away  the sins  of everyone  who believes  in Him  and His work  for us.

And,  if we honestly believe  in Jesus’  sacrificial love  for us,  we naturally  will respond  to that love  with an honestly reverent lifestyle.

We love,  because He first loved us.       1 John 4:19

So,  faith shows itself  to be faith.

King David spoke  of God’s manner  of testing  the sincerity  of absolutely everyone’s faith  —  to get us ready  for our upcoming judgment.     He wrote  in Psalm 11:5,

The LORD  tests  the righteous  and  the wicked,
And the one  who loves violence  His soul hates.

Everyone  gets tested  in this life  —  in an effort  to lead  and guide us  into God’s truths.     As we trust God  through all our trials,  we are strengthened  to remain  in the truths  of  “the gospel  of God”.     But,  if we call ourselves Christians  and love  the sins  of this world,  we will have to face  “the outcome  for those  who do not obey  the gospel  of God”.

Joyfully  living  in God’s sacrificial love  for us,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for caring  about our every thought  and way,  that we may live  as Your dear children  should live.”

Love,
Margaret
