Prepare  Your Minds  for Action

The apostle Peter knew what it was like  to be confused  and afraid  —  to let scary circumstances  dictate  one’s actions  and faith.     Peter was the disciple  who was very sure  that he was willing  to die  with Jesus  —  and then,  ended up fearfully denying  any knowledge  of Jesus three times.     But,  after Jesus’ resurrection,  Peter regained  his confidence  and surety  of faith.

Peter realized  that other Christians  could also face  his situation.     So,  Peter has written to us all,  to bolster our faith  during our trials.     In the First Epistle of Peter,  he reminds Christians  of their living hope,  God’s powerful nearness,  and the proofs  of fulfilled,  Old Testament  prophecies  in Christ Jesus.     After all those reminders,  Peter tells us  in 1 Peter 1:13,

Thereforeprepare your minds  for action,  keep sober  in spirit,  fix your hope completely  on the grace  to be brought  to you  at the revelation  of Jesus Christ.

God’s word tells us  many times  that in the end days  we will have to face  many trials  and tribulations  as the hearts  of the people grows cold.     Our knee jerk reaction  will be to automatically  become fearful,  doubtful,  faithless,  angry  —  you name it.     To prepare  for those testy times,  we are told  to study  God’s word,  so that we can become  very sure  of God’s power  and love  in every situation.     God has proven  throughout history  that He alone is almighty  and in control  of every circumstance.

As we learn  and study all  that God has done  to fulfill  His promises  of a Savior,  we will become strengthened  in the true faith,  and better enabled  to withstand  whatever trials  we will need  to face.     It is vital  to pay attention  —  and not forget  what God’s word promises.

In the strength  of God’s nearness  in His word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for the power of Your eternal word.”

Love,
Margaret
