For Who Is God, But the LORD?
People have claimed all sorts of things to be their god. King David knew the true God, confessed Him as LORD in the midst of his dire troubles — and was saved. When David was saved from King Saul’s murderous attempts, David sang in Psalm 18:30-32,
As for God, His way is blameless;
The word of the LORD is tried;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
For who is God, but the LORD?
And who is a rock, except our God,
The God who girds me with strength
And makes my way blameless?
David challenges everyone with the question, “For who is God, but the LORD?” David was totally confident that only the “LORD” is God because “The word of the LORD is tried”. Everything in the Bible has been proven through history and the fulfillment of God’s prophecies. No other god has been able to do anything like that. So, we can stake our trust and faith in the “LORD”, also.
As we read the history in the Bible, we can see that God’s “way is blameless”. In every situation, God’s patience, faithfulness, kindness, love, and justice have been shown to be “blameless”. Seeing God’s blamelessness makes one bow in reverence and appreciation.
The “LORD” refers to the self-existent, eternal one. The “LORD” has no beginning or end. His word in the Bible has been “tried” and tested in many ways. It has always proven itself to be true. So, we can be confident in God as our “shield”, “rock”, and “strength”. What is most awesome is that He “makes my way blameless”.
With all that God does for us, we too can confidently ask, “For who is God, but the LORD?” There is no other god and never will be. In that peace, we say, “Hallelujah! LORD, thank You for revealing Yourself to us for our comfort and confidence.”
Love,
Margaret
