That  Is Your Teacher?

Since we know  deep down inside  that we are very inadequate  in so many areas,  we look for advice,  and help  in many areas.     That is fine  when it might come  to a need  for a professional mechanic  for one’s vehicle,  the construction  of a house,  or help  in fixing  a computer problem.     We trust professionals  in these areas  because they have proven  their expertise.

We also need someone  with proven expertise  in the area  of knowing  the true Lord  and God.     In this case,  we can go straight  to God’s word  because God’s word  is tried  and proven  to be trustworthy  and the truth.     God Himself  speaks  to us  in His word.     He gave  His word  to us through many different prophets down  through the ages  —  and has shown us  through history  that those prophets spoke  the truth.     So,  we have every reason  to trust the Bible  —  and actually no reason  to mistrust it.

To those  who still insist  in finding  another god,  more to their liking,  Habakkuk 2:18-19  says,

What profit  is the idol  when its maker  has carved it,
Or an image,  a teacher  of falsehood?
For its maker  trusts  in his own handiwork
When he fashions  speechless idols.
Woe  to him  who says  to a piece  of wood,  ‘Awake!’
To a dumb stone,  ‘Arise!”
And  that  is your teacher?

The “gods”  of today  include philosophies,  “higher” education,  the idols  and superstitions  of yesteryear,  political power,  popularity,  riches,  etc.     Every single one of these  will fail us  when it is  our time  to die.     All of these are  “a teacher  of falsehood”“speechless idols”,  or a “dumb stone”  of sorts.     They all  show the weaknesses  of mere human beings.

None of these will  “profit” us  when we need  to face  our Creator and Redeemer.     So,  what’s the sense  of depending  on them?

Seeing  God’s tested word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for caring  to teach us.”

Love,
Margaret
