Kept

We try  to keep things  that are precious  to us.     We take care  of them  —  protect and guard them  —  treasure them.     It’s much the same  with our LORD.     He cares  for us  —  protects  and guards us  —  treasures us.     God’s word shares that with us  to comfort us  and assure us  of God’s love,  even as we might stumble around  in this life.

A little bit  of that  can be seen  in a study  of the Greek word,   tēreō,  which means “to attend to carefully“,  “to guard“,  to keep as is.     It can be translated into English as “keep”,  “preserved”, “kept”.     When we do a word search  in a Bible study application,  we will come up with verses like:

If you love Me,  you will keep  My commandments.       John 14:15

Now  may the God  of peace Himself  sanctify you entirely;  and may your spirit  and soul  and body  be preserved  complete,  without blame  at the coming  of our Lord Jesus Christ.       1 Thessalonians 5:23

But  by His word  the present heavens  and earth  are being reserved  for fire,  kept  for the day  of judgment  and destruction  of ungodly men.       2 Peter 3:7

Jude,  a bond-servant  of Jesus Christ,  and brother  of James,  to those  who are the called,  beloved  in God the Father,  and kept  for Jesus Christ.       Jude 1:1

Keep yourselves  in the love  of God,  waiting anxiously  for the mercy  of our Lord Jesus Christ  to eternal life.       Jude 1:21

So  remember  what you have received  and heard;  and keep it,  and repent.     Therefore  if you do not wake up,  I will come  like a thief,  and you  will not know  at what hour  I will come  to you.       Revelation  3:3

God dearly treasures us  as His own children.      God has “kept” us safe  for Jesus Christ.     In the same breath,  we are instructed  to “keep” God’s word  to us.     We should not allow our lives  to despise  God’s word.     The wicked are being kept for the day  of judgment  and destruction”,  and we are to “keep” God’s word  “and repent”.

With a fine line  of respect,  honor,  and love,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You for Your merciful patience.     Keep us  in Your truths.”

Love,
Margaret
