If You Know

If  You Know

What we  “know”  for sure  changes us.     Our behavior  is changed  when we are  in the presence  of someone  we are sure  loves us  —  as opposed  to being  in the presence  of an enemy  out to destroy us.     Behavior  can be changed  for students  who “know”  a test  is coming  —  for a motorist  who knows  a policeman  is watching  —  for a hospital patient,  who knows  he has been healed.

1 John 2:29  tells us  of another  sure change  that results  from knowing,

If  you know  that He is righteous,  you know  that everyone  also  who practices righteousness  is born  of Him.

John says this  —  not just  for us  to check  on the behavior  of others  who claim  to be Christian  —  but to also  take a long,  hard look  at our own behavior.

Do we personally  “know”  Christ Jesus  so dearly  that we are sure  “that He is righteous”?      Or,  do we doubt  Jesus’  love  and righteousness  when we think  our prayers  are not being answered  —  or when bad things happen  to us?     Has Jesus’  sure righteousness  changed  our behavior?     What kind of behavior  do we “practice”?

The absolute truth is  “that He is righteous”  in any  and every situation  we have to face  day  after day.     Knowing  that Jesus is with us  —  will never forsake us  —  knows our every thought  —  has suffered  and died  to pay  for our sins  —  and still loves us,  should lead us  to practice “righteousness”  for His name’s sake.

John says that “everyone  also  who practices righteousness  is born  of Him”.     To be  “born”  of Jesus  is to honestly believe  in Him  to the point  that it changes  our behaviors.

Learning  to  “know”  Jesus  as our Savior,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  thank You  for teaching us,  and leading us  in Your righteousness  to Your glory.”

Love,
Margaret
