He  Instructs  Sinners

There are many people  who feel uncomfortable  with the Bible.     They feel  totally unqualified  to read it  with any understanding.     There are all sorts  of reasons for those feelings.     For one,  years ago  a church body  specifically  told the people  that they were not qualified  to read  the Bible  with understanding  and forbade them  to read it.     Also,  knowing  that the Bible  is the inspired word  of God Almighty  Himself  leads some  to be  in the wrong kind  of fear.     And then,  there is the challenge  of dealing  with so many strange names  of people,  places,  and customs.

The fact is  that God wants  all  of us  to read  and study  His word  to us  —  meditating  on it  and applying it  to our daily lives.     God wants us  to accept Him  as our Teacher.     Psalm 25:8-9  says,

Good  and upright  is the Lord;
Therefore  He instructs  sinners  in the way.
He leads  the humble  in justice,
And He teaches  the humble  His way.

Note  that God  is not just wanting  to teach  pious,  religious leaders.     Much rather,  He instructs  sinners  in the way”.     That’s all  of us  —  no matter what our past  or background.     If we want  to learn  about God,  He is ready  and willing  to teach us,  as we open up  our Bibles,  settle down,  read,  study,  and think  about what God  has said  to us.

1 John 2:27  says,

As for you,  the anointing  which you received  from Him  abides  in you,  and you have no need  for anyone  to teach you;  but as  His anointing teaches you  about all things,  and is true  and is not a lie,  and just as it  has taught you,  abide  in Him.

“The anointing”  we have received  is the Holy Spirit working  in our hearts  when we came  to believe  in Jesus.     Because we believe  Jesus truly  is our one-and-only Savior  from sin,  we can be assured  that the Holy Spirit  is  in our hearts,  wanting to teach us more  about God  to strengthen  our faith.     We can be sure  that all  of God’s word  “is true  and is not a lie”  because it has been proven true  in all the fulfilled prophecies  about Jesus.

And because Psalm 25 said that He instructs sinners  in the way”,  we can be sure  that God wants  to teach us  —  as we  “abide  in Him”.     In other words,  we take God  at His word,  strive  to live according  to His loving salvation,   and do not take off  on a tangent  of our imagination.

In awe  of God’s love,  patience,  and wisdom,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for stooping down  to teach us.”

Love,
Margaret
