The Word  of the LORD  to Them  Will Be

People take things  differently.     When someone  is speaking,  some listeners will have  a twisted understanding  of what was said  —  it is not at all  what the speaker intended  or actually said.     So,  when a discussion  takes place,  there are all sorts  of disagreements  about the subject.     Different people have different opinions  based on all sorts  of previous understandings  — and a lack  of listening rightly.

The same thing happens  when people think  they have heard  the word  of God.     In Isaiah 28:12-13,  Isaiah says  to the people  who listen  with less than  half an ear,

He  who said  to them,  “Here is rest,  give rest  to the weary,”
And,  “Here is repose,”  but they would not listen.
So the word  of the Lord  to them  will be,
“Order on order,  order  on order,
Line  on line,  line  on line,
A little here,  a little there,”
That they may go  and stumble backward,  be broken,  snared  and taken captive.

This is a terrible thing  that happens  to those  who refuse  to rightly “listen”  to God’s word.     God Almighty patiently reaches out  to everyone.     He longs  to give us  spiritual  “rest”.     God wants us  to have  the peace  of mind  that comes  with knowing  and believing  in His love  for us.     If  —  after seeing the glory  of God’s creation,  and the wonders  of so many fulfilled prophesies  in Christ Jesus  —  we still refuse  to rightly  “listen”  to God’s word,  and believe  in His righteousness  and holiness,  we will end up  trying  to obey  all sorts  of man-made rules  and philosophies,  that are foolish  and meaningless.

We will be insisting  on working  our way  to heaven  —  as we reject  God’s holy promises  of salvation  through faith  in Christ Jesus.     “Little”  by  “little”  we will be suckered  into believing  the orders  and lines  of false prophets  and teachers.     In accepting their lies,  one will  “stumble backward,  be broken,  snared  and taken captive.”

But,  it doesn’t  have to  be that way.

We can open up  God’s eternal word,  and learn  the truth  from our Creator and Redeemer.     Then we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for patiently  reaching out  to us.”

Love,
Margaret
