Worthy  of the Calling

When we  hear the word  of God  straight  from the Bible,  we are receiving  a  “calling”  from God  to become  a child  of God.     God’s word  is always “calling” out  God’s truths  to His children  about our gift  of free salvation  through faith  in Christ  —  how Christ is the fulfillment  of many Old Testament prophecies  —  how God’s prophecies  always come true  to the smallest detail  —  how God created  and sustains all things  —  how believers  are a part  of God’s eternal family  —  and many other such things.

As we read  and hear  these truths  of God,  God is  “calling”  us  to live  as a true child  of God  should live.     Paul  says  in Ephesians 4:1,

I,  therefore,  the prisoner  of the Lord,  entreat you  to walk  in a manner worthy  of the calling  with which you have been called.

God’s  “calling”  to be His royal child  is a most awesome invitation.     No one is forced  to accept  this  “calling”,  but it doesn’t make any sense  to refuse it.     Why live  in the dark  grossness  of worldly lies  and vanities?     That’s nothing but  a cesspool  of hatreds,  doubts,  fears,  fighting,  falsehoods,  greed,  and all sorts  of worthless things  that will never give us peace  or joy.

God is  “calling”  us sinners  to an eternity  of peace,  wholeness,  love,  victory,  and all that is good  and precious.     When we get  such a gift  from God,  we need  to start living  like a child  of God  right now.     God wants us to live changed lives  —  “to walk  in a manner worthy  of the calling  with which  you have been called.”

When we look  to God  for help  in doing so,  He has promised  to strengthen  and help us.     Let us not  refuse  His help.

Strengthened  in God’s loving help,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  You truly are  our all in all.”

Love,
Margaret
