In Real Knowledge

We know  that all over the Internet  are sites claiming  to have  “real knowledge”  of some sort.     Even though they might  at first  seem authentic,  authoritative,  and knowledgeable  about their subject,  they are promoting every kind  of falsehood.     So,  we need  to research  every subject  to find out  what is true  and trustworthy.     It’s not just the Internet  that has promoted falsehoods.     Falsehoods  of every kind  have been promoted  since the beginning  of time.

That is why Paul prayed  for all Christians.     Because there were so many false preachers  wanting  to get rich and famous  for their preaching,  Paul prayed for  —  and guided  —  the Christian congregations  he helped  set up.     Paul speaks  of his prayers  in Philippians 1:9-11,

And this I pray,  that your love  may abound  still more and more  in real knowledge  and all discernment,  so that you may  approve  the things  that are excellent,  in order  to be sincere  and blameless  until the day  of Christ;  having been filled  with the fruit  of righteousness  which comes  through Jesus Christ,  to the glory  and praise  of God.

There are many wonderful truths  to think about  in Paul’s prayer.     The love  that we have for God  really needs  to  “abound”  “in real knowledge  and all discernment”.     We can’t afford  to be loving falsehoods  of any kind.     So, we need a  “real knowledge”  that is truly truth.     And,  we need  good  “discernment”  so we can separate truth  from falsehoods.

If we don’t have a  real knowledge  and all discernment”,  we won’t be able  to “approve the things  that are excellent.”     In other words,  we might actually be  imagining falsehoods  to be good  and “excellent”.     All that  would be  because  we don’t have a  real knowledge  and all discernment”.     Paul’s prayer  is something  we need  to daily pray  for ourselves  and our fellow Christians.

A true “knowledge”  of God’s salvation  will keep us “blameless  until the day  of Christ”  because it will keep  our love  going in the right direction.     That’s a wonderful promise.     All we need  to do  is faithfully remain  in the “real knowledge”  and  “discernment”  of God’s truths  in the Bible.     We need  to love God’s truths.

Loving God’s word,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord,  let Your word  guide us  in Your truths  and discernment.”

Love,
Margaret
