If  There Is  Any Excellence

“Excellence”  is wonderful.     We truly enjoy  “excellence”  in music,  art,  sports,  the work place,  the products we buy,  the services we receive  —  really,  in all areas  of life.     There are many examples  of  “excellence”  in this world.     Most of all,  “excellence”  is displayed  in all the workings  of God’s creation  —  and  in how God graciously worked  to keep  His promise  of a Savior.     God’s workings  are indescribably awesome.

And yet,  it is sad  that so many take them  for granted  —  and don’t even think  about the power behind  all of it  —  especially when they are engrossed  in whatever challenges  and troubles  they are facing.     When troubles come,  the tendency is  for a person  to concentrate  on the problem  and their feelings.

This self-centered  reaction is wrong  because it is refusing  to glorify God  for His love,  salvation,  and promises  for our eternal future.     Philippians 4:8  directs us  to keep all  the workings  of God  foremost  in our minds,

Finally,  brethren,  whatever  is true,  whatever  is honorable,  whatever  is right,  whatever  is pure,  whatever  is lovely,  whatever  is of good repute,  if there is any excellence  and if anything worthy  of praise,  dwell  on these things.

Wherever  we see any  of these good qualities  of “excellence”,  God has been working.     We are to  “dwell  on these things”  because  in all sorts  of ways,  they display God’s goodness  and grace.

There is all sorts  of ugly sins  and evils  in this world.     But,  if we dwell  on those evils,  we will become blind  to God’s love  and power  to work all things  to our good.     We will be binding ourselves  with complaining,  bitterness,  hatefulness,  and faithlessness.     That will keep us  from praising God  as we ought  —  and that is a sin  because it is denying  the truth  of God’s love.

Dwelling  on God’s love  and power,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You displaying  Your love  in so many ways  to help us through  this life.”

Love,
Margaret
