My Own  Special Treasure

We all love “special”  things  we can call  our very own.     We truly  “treasure”  these things  and lovingly care  for them.     Thinking  about treasures,  we need  to always remember  that we  are God’s  “special treasure”.     When the Israelites  left Egypt,  God wanted  to assure them  of His ongoing,  tender care.     So,  God said  in Exodus 19:5,

Now  if you will obey Me  and keep  My covenant,  you will be My own special treasure  from among  all the peoples  on earth;  for all the earth belongs  to Me.

Then,  after all their travels  through the deserts  the Israelites  were about  to enter the Promised Land  and were given directions  for conquering  that land.     They were told  in Deuteronomy 7:6,

For  you are a holy people  to the LORD  your God;  the LORD  your God  has chosen you  to be a people  for His own possession  out of all the peoples  who are  on the face  of the earth.

That phrase,  “for His own possession”  is the same as  “My own special treasure”.      As believers  in Christ  our Savior,   we too,  are considered God’s “chosen”  “special treasure”.     We can know that  because 1 Peter 2:9  tells us,

But  you are  a chosen race,  a royal priesthood,  a holy nation,  a people  for God’s own possession,  so that  you may proclaim  the excellencies  of Him  who has called you out  of darkness  into His marvelous light.

We don’t know  our Savior  by accident.     God has already “chosen” us  as His  “own special treasure”  —  “His  own possession”.    God cares for us  —  and treasures us  —  as He carries us  through this life.

Knowing  we are treasured,  we strive  to live  as treasured people,  and say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for making us  Your own special treasure  in Christ Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
