You Too  Have a Master

Life becomes problematic  when we forget  or don’t realize  that we all  have a Master  —  no matter what  our status  in this life.     Colossians 4:1 says,

Masters,  grant  to your slaves  justice and fairness,  knowing  that you too  have a Master  in heaven.

One might imagine,  “Well,  I don’t have any slaves,  so this doesn’t pertain  to me”.     But,  it does pertain  to us  and everyone else.     We don’t think  of ourselves  as being slaves  or  slave owners,  but we should be mindful  of who  and what  we really are.

We are “masters”  of any number of things,  situations,  or people  in this life.     We might be “masters”  over a country,  state,  county,  city,  business,  family,  or even  over our own behaviors.     So,  no matter what  our age  or status,  we are “masters”  over something.

Therefore,  we are to show  “justice  and fairness”  in any  and every  sort of situation.     Every life situation  needs to “grant”  “justice  and fairness”.     We are all obligated  to be just and fair because  “you too  have a Master  in heaven”.

Jesus marveled  at the faith  of the centurion, who so willingly  accepted Jesus  as his Master,  who had the authority  to heal  his beloved slave.     This centurion humbly confessed  in Luke 7:8,

I also am a man placed  under authority,  with soldiers  under me;  and I say  to this one,  ‘Go!’  and he goes,  and to another,  ‘Come!’  and he comes,  and to my slave,  ‘Do this!’  and he does it.

That was  this centurion’s station  in life.     Jesus has an eternal station  in our lives  that we need  to recognize.     He said  in Matthew 28:18,

All authority  has been given  to Me  in heaven  and on earth.

We all need  to understand  that Jesus  is our Master  —  no matter what  the rest of the world  may think.     We are  to be just and fair  to those under us  as we want Jesus  to be  just and fair  to us.     Have the right perspective  —  recognize the Master.

Glad  to have Jesus  as our Master,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  let us ever look  to You.”

Love,
Margaret
