The Rock  That Is Higher  Than I

Pride fools us  into imagining  that we are great.     We might think  we’re great  because of  our intelligence  —  physical strength  —  good looks  —  popularity  —  success  —  riches  —  cunning  —  dominating personality  —  or whatever.     But,  all of those things are  temporary.     They will all  be gone  when we die  —  and maybe  long before we die.     They are nothings.     There is no honest,  truthful,  lasting greatness  in any of them.     They are nothing  but a joke.

Psalm 61:1-4  shows us where  to find  true greatness.     It says,

Hear my cry,  O God;
Give heed  to my prayer.
From the end  of the earth  I call  to You  when my heart  is faint;
Lead me  to the rock  that is higher  than I.
For you have been  a refuge  for me,
A tower  of strength  against the enemy.
Let me dwell  in Your tent  forever;
Let me take refuge  in the shelter  of Your wings.    Selah.

There is truth  and honesty  in our utter need  to seek God’s help  throughout  our lives.     Only God is the one who is truthfully  and honestly great.     Our Creator,  Redeemer  is the only one  with whom all things  are possible  —  and nothing  is impossible.

For our every need  we need God to  “Lead me  to the rock  that is higher  than I.     Jesus is that Rock.     He alone  is our sure “refuge”  and “strength”.     We need God  to lead us  to our Savior.     He does that  in His word.     So,  we daily allow God  to lead us  into His word  to obtain strength  for the day  —  and give us refuge  from worldly deceits  in God’s eternal truth.

At peace  in “the rock  that is higher  than I”,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your love  in Christ Jesus  is our  greatest strength  and refuge.”

Love,
Margaret
