If Anyone  Is Not Willing  to Work

They can be seen  in almost every community.     They are  around the world.     And lately,  some have made it  to the news headlines,  as they boast  of their lack  of desire  to work  and earn their own living.     They are proud  of being able  to get  all sorts  of freebies.     Somehow or another  they feel  it is their privilege  to freely  live off the backs  of other people.

It is one thing  to meet up  with a disaster  and to be  in a valid,  desperate need  for assistance.     There are  all sorts  of disasters  in life  that honestly  deserve the assistance  of others.

But,  sadly,  there are many  able bodied people  who simply are  “not willing  to work”.     They will make every excuse  in the books,  and feel  ever so smart  as they collect everything  they feel  is “due” them.     This sinfully lazy attitude  has been around  for thousands  of years.

For this reason,  2 Thessalonians 3:10-13  instructs Christians,

For even when  we were with you,  we used to  give you  this order:  if anyone  is not willing  to workthen he is not  to eat,  either.     For  we hear  that some  among you  are leading  an undisciplined life,  doing no work  at all,  but acting  like busybodies.     Now such persons  we command  and exhort  in the Lord Jesus Christ  to work  in quiet fashion  and eat their own bread.     But  as for you,  brethren,  do not grow weary  of doing good.

So,  we are not to  “grow weary  of doing good”  where  “doing good” is due.     And,  if anyone  is not willing  to work,  then he is not  to eat, either”.     That seems  to be a deterrent  to being lazy.

But,  do we obey  this scriptural command?     Evidently not.

As we think  on all  of God’s work  on our behalf,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     Lord Jesus,  let us  always gladly  and rightly work  to Your glory.”

Love,
Margaret
