Some  Have Rejected  And Suffered  Shipwreck

There are many  who stubbornly  want to do  their own thing  —  their own way.     They are fully aware  of what God’s word  says  on any particular biblical doctrine,  but they just  don’t like  God’s way.     Maybe they imagine  they are wiser  and much more knowledgeable  regarding  that clear doctrine.     Their conscience  doesn’t bother them  one single bit  as they defy  God’s word  and do things  their way.

They bristle  at the thought  of God telling them what  to do.     All that is  with the knowledge  that God made them  and all of creation  —  and that God is  the final Judge  regarding all things.     Somehow,  they think  that their Creator is  too bossy  and rather dumb  in some areas  of their lives  —  and that no one can judge them  for all eternity.

Timothy was a good,  young preacher  of God’s word.     Paul entrusted him  with the job  of strengthening  and keeping the Ephesian congregation  in the truths  of God,  so they wouldn’t cave in  to the false preachers  trying to twist God’s truths.     Paul wrote  in 1 Timothy 1:18-19,

….fight  the good fight,  keeping faith  and a good conscience,  which some  have rejected  and suffered shipwreck  in regard  to their faith.

When your ship goes down  in the middle  of the ocean,  you are gone forever.     There is no chance  to stay alive.     You are instant shark bait.     Many people lose  “the good fight”  for the true  “faith  and a good conscience”.     They instantly cave in  to false teachings  of every sort  —  just because the false teacher  seems confident,  is a strong speaker,  is promoting some new idea,  and appears intelligent.

It’s not smart  to reject God’s time-tested truths  and let the truth  in us die.     We do need  to stand up  for God’s truth,  and  “fight the good fight,  keeping faith  and a good conscience.”     We will be  eternally glad  we did  —  with God’s help.

Rejoicing  in eternal truth,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  Your truth  gives life.”

Love,
Margaret
