I Have Inherited

In the things  we have  “inherited”  there are memories  of love,  care,  and faithfulness  in our growing up  in the protection  of loving parents.     We treasure the things  they passed  onto us,  just because  they remind us  of our past.     Many of the “things”  we have  “inherited”  don’t have much  monetary value  —  but they have great value  in the principles  we grew up with.     They tell us who we are  —  how beloved we are  —  and what sorts  of principles  are important  in life.

No matter what kind  of setting  we grew up in,  all those  who trust  in God  have inherited something  of unimaginable value  for all eternity.     Psalm 119:111  tells us,

I have inherited  Your testimonies  forever,
For they  are the joy  of my heart.

We  who believe  have inherited  Your testimonies  forever”.     We have it right  in front of us.     We have  the treasure  of God’s words  every day  as we meditate  on what God tells us  in His word.     The world thinks  God’s word  is worthless.     They mock it  and don’t want  to be bothered  with it.

But,  we know it  as the most awesome treasure  that we  “have inherited”.     These words  are for us  “forever”.     God’s word  is eternal  —  and as we see  how God has fulfilled  all of His Old Testament prophecies  about our Savior,  we  gladly say,  “they are the joy  of my heart”.

This treasure isn’t going away.     It will never rust  or decay.     It is forever settled  in heaven.     We don’t have to  be afraid  of this treasure  being taken from us.     When we keep  God’s word  as  “the joy  of my heart”,  God keeps it  within us  “forever”.

Glad  for the awesome power  of God’s faithfulness,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for bringing  such precious joy  to our hearts.”

Love,
Margaret
