Their Sins Follow After

Many people lead  an apparently good life.     Other people look  at them  and agree  that they are good people  who do not steal,  lie,  commit adultery,  kill,  slander,  or do anything else  that will surely condemn  a person.     One can look at their church life  and see  that they actively take part  in church activities  and are members  of really good standing.

That might  be all well  and good  —  but it might  also be a ruse,  in which that person  is putting on a front  in which he might even  be fooling himself.     That person might be imagining  that all of his obvious goodness  is earning  his way  to heaven.     He might never  have accepted Christ  as his Savior  —  and he might be sure  he has no need  of a Savior.     He surely has sins  because we are all declared sinners  —  but,  he doesn’t think  of his sins  as being worthy  of condemnation.

But,  Paul has a word  of caution  for such people.     He says  in 1 Timothy 5:24,

The sins  of some men  are quite evident,  going before them  to judgment;  for others,  their sins follow after.

God Almighty sees  and knows  absolutely all things.     No one  can hide anything  from God  —  not even our very deepest thoughts  and secrets.     If we imagine  that we have  pulled the wool  over God’s eyes,  He will show us differently  on Judgment Day.

It’s vital  to confess our thoughts  and feelings  to the LORD.     King David prayed  in Psalm 32:5,

I acknowledged  my sin  to You,
And my iniquity  I did not hide;
I said,  “I will confess  my transgressions  to the LORD”;
And You forgave  the guilt  of my sin.     Selah.

David confessed  to the LORD  and was immediately,  totally forgiven.     That’s the marvelous wonder  of the love  of God.     So,  we daily  lay our all  before the LORD,  and trust  in His loving forgiveness  through Christ.

Forgiven,  we go forward  in life,  praising God  and saying,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for cleansing us  in the blood  of Jesus.”

Love,
Margaret
