To See  Whether  These Things  Were So

We know  how fast  slander,  gossip,  and untruths  of every sort  can travel.     The Internet  easily becomes  a vehicle  of every sort  of distortion  that affects  and hurts  so many.     It is extremely unwise  to trust  web sites,  until they are thoroughly vetted.     And,  even then,  they can make a mistake.     We are all human  and need  to watch  what we say,  listen to,  and believe.

Needing  to vet  all sorts  of claims  is not a modern thing.     Slander,  gossip,  and outright lies  have always plagued mankind  since the Fall  into sin.     We don’t want  to be duped  into lies.     That hurts  —  and can create  so much shame.

The only wise thing  to do  is to vet  —  to thoroughly examineinvestigate,  and evaluate  every single claim.

An honest vetting  takes time,  love,  care,  decency,  righteousness,  truthfulness  —  all the things  that make  for goodness.     We are doing ourselves  a favor  by honestly vetting  every sort  of teaching.     We need  to care  about whether or not  we are  accepting lies.

In Acts 17:10-12,  we read about  righteous people  who cared  about truth,

The brethren  immediately sent Paul  and Silas away  by night  to Berea,  and when they arrived,  they went  into the synagogue  of the Jews.     Now these were more noble-minded  than those  in Thessalonica,  for they received  the word  with great eagerness,  examining  the Scriptures daily  to see  whether these things  were so.     Therefore  many of them believed…….

“Noble-minded”  people check things out  for the truth.     They love the truth  and care enough  about being decent enough  to vet  everything  others are trying  to tell them.     They don’t fall  for lies,  because they vet everything  with the Scriptures  —  to test everything  with God’s word.

Everyone needs  to be “noble-minded”  —  and do the same.     Check everything out  with God’s word.     Yes,  it takes time,  love,  care,  decency,  righteousness,  and truthfulness.     But,  it sure is  worth it.

In the freedom  of God’s eternal truths,  we say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for setting us free  from the deceptiveness  of this sinful world.”

Love,
Margaret
