I Will  Lift Up  My Eyes  to the Mountains

As we walk  through this life,  we have some hard,  up-hill climbs  and some steep  down-hill grades  to travel.     Along the way,  everyone meets overwhelming  and baffling challenges.     Just how  can we handle  it all  when we lack  a total understanding  of all  that is  in play?

Psalm 121  is a Song of Ascents,  which was sung  by the people  of Israel  as they walked together  to Jerusalem  to attend  their celebrations  at the Temple.     In this Psalm they sang,

I will lift up  my eyes  to the mountains;
From where shall  my help come?
My help comes  from the LORD,
Who made heaven  and earth.
He will not allow  your foot  to slip;
He who keeps you  will not slumber.
Behold,  He who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber  nor sleep.

The LORD  is your keeper;
The LORD  is your shade  on your right hand.
The sun  will not smite you  by day,
Nor the moon  by night.
The LORD  will protect you  from all evil;
He will  keep  your soul.
The LORD  will guard  your going out  and your coming in
From this time forth  and forever.

In our lives,  we also should  look up  to the LORD God Almighty  for the help  we need.     We know  He created  all the heavens  and earth.     In His might,  He has promised  to keep guard  over us,  and protect us.     The most important thing is that  “He will keep your soul”.     Our trials can surely overwhelm us  —  but it is most comforting  to have the  repeated assurance  that the LORD  will keep  our souls  safe through it all.

Reaching our heavenly home  is our actual  end goal.     That is where  we will joyfully praise  our Lord  and enjoy  the bliss  of seeing  God’s glory.     Satisfied,  we will say,  “Hallelujah!     LORD,  thank You  for helping us through this life  and keeping our souls safe.”

Love,
Margaret
